Santa's Surprise Book

Enjoy this cute Whitman Tell-a-Tale book - Santa's Surprise Book - where Santa makes the book and then hops inside of it!  :)
What are some of your best Christmas memories?  We always went to my Grandpa's and to my great-grandmother's on Christmas Eve, all of our big extended family squeezing in.  Then on the way home we'd drive around looking at all the Christmas lights.  Christmas Day- open the stockings before church, then after church the rest of the presents.  My mom liked for us to open them slowly, each of us taking turns.  Now that I have my own family, we don't go quite as slowly with the presents as my mom did, but probably more slowly than most - we like to enjoy watching each present being opened.  Not an easy task with over-excited children, but we try!  On Boxing Day (Dec. 26) we would spend the day with my other grandparents and any relatives from that side of the family that had come in from out of town to visit.  For many years my dad would make an ice rink in our back yard and we could skate and play hockey with friends, relatives, and neighbours.

My Prayers - Whitman Tell-a-Tale

Posted by PicasaLove these cute pics from Whitman Tell-a-Tale's "My Prayers" - especially the Sunday outfits and the beautiful little white church.  I still remember when my older daughter was 3 and she prayed - "God, please help me not to be scared of the vacuum cleaner".  Hahaha!  Another funny story is when we were attending a church that met in a movie theatre - every time we drove by a theatre she would say - "Look, there's church!" At that age she didn't know that building was usually for movies, or what a typical classic church building looked like!

A Child's Garden of Verses - Illustrated by Ruth Ruhman

Posted by PicasaI lovelovelove these illustrations by Ruth Ruhman. This book is one I salvaged from my grandmother's attic.  It is pretty beaten up - scribbled on, missing some pages, and the remaining pages are a bit loose.  I really like A Child's Garden of Verses and I would like to collect some more editions of it by different illustrators - I have my eye on the one by Gyo Fujikawa- I have quite a few of her books but not that one yet- and the one by the Provensens, for example.  I framed a page from this book that is so cute and reminds me of my daughters, and I also made a decoupage frame that included some pics from this book.

3 Whitman-Tell-a-Tale Books

Posted by PicasaI love Whitman Tell-a-Tale books- I remember always looking for the cute little Whitman 'W' person up in the top corner.  :)  2 of these 3 books are about pets- the other day my daughter was saying she felt left out because she doesn't have any pets and most of her friends do.  Mommy Guilt Trip!!!  She has wanted a dog for the longest time but now she is saying she might even like a cat.  When she was 2  years old and we were out for walks and we would see someone with a dog, she would run like crazy until we caught up with them and she could see the dog up close.  She has a vast collection of stuffed animal doggies - for a couple years she insisted on sleeping with ALL of them - we have since weaned her down to just a few in her actual bed and the rest in various other places in her room.  :)  My husband and I reaaaaallly don't want to get a pet.  Too much work!!  I never had a pet when I was a kid either.  (Am I sounding like a Grinch?  Call me the Pet Grinch.  :)  )
