Back in the 80's when I was a kid my family lived in Edmonton, Alberta. We used to go to Bullwinkle's Family Restaurant for special occasions- it was the best! WAY cooler than Chuck E. Cheese. I remember the animatronic Rocky and Bullwinkle show that you could watch while you ate your dinner. My 7 year old recently went to see the new Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie and had a good time.

Three Little Kittens/The Shy Little Kitten
Three Little Kittens is the first Little Golden Book, illustrated by Masha, in 1942. The Shy Little Kitten, illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren, (who also illustrated The Poky Little Puppy), is also one of the original 12 Little Golden Books. My 2 oldest daughters, Keira and Tegan, each have a stuffed animal cat as their best buddy that they bring everywhere. (Baby Brielle doesn't have a favourite animal yet!) Keira's cat is named Fiddlesticks and Tegan's cat is named Cat.

Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book
Fiiinally taking a quick break from tending to my new baby and gazing out at too much snow with a new post for you. Enjoy this collection of some of the best illustrations from Little Golden Books over the years. Little Goldens really are the best. The pictures are selected from stories such as Tootle, The Three Bears, The Saggy Baggy Elephant, The Musicians of Bremen, Baby's First Book, Nurse Nancy, Pantaloon, Open Up My Suitcase, A Day on the Farm, The Color Kittens, The Tawny Scrawny Lion, The Little Red Hen, and Little Boy With a Big Horn.

The Golden Book Illustrated Dictionary

A while back I picked up these Golden Book Illustrated Dictionaries from a used book sale. The covers are illustrated by Harry McNaught and various artists did the inside work. McNaught also illustrated a number of Sesame Street books and Wizard of Oz books in the Little Golden style.
When I was a kid I read a LOT. I don't think I ever actually read the whole dictionary but I did read through a set of children's encyclopedias that we had at one point. Back then our school library and city library did not have a ton of selection- nowadays there is just so much out there for kids and young adults to read. My 7-year-old has the wonderful problem of having too many books that she wants to get through. We buy a lot of books for her, and she visits the school library every week as well as the city library once in a while, although not as often as we did when she was not in school full-time yet. She's really hooked on the Geronimo Stilton series lately. One of these days I should count up all the children's books we have in our house.

The Barbapapas' Christmas

I'm a little late for Christmas but I hope you'll still enjoy this one! The Barbapapa books were written in the 1970's. I totally remember watching the 5-minute cartoons on tv as a child. As you have probably figured out by looking at the illustrations, the Barbapapa family can change their shape. When they do so, they say 'Clickety-click, Barba-trick!' Aaaah, memories. :) Check out the official Barbapapa website here.

Amazing stuff on Pinterest, of course!
Adorable!!
Want!!
