Gyo Fujikawa's Mother Goose

I thought it was time that I do another post about my favourite children's illustrator, Gyo Fujikawa.  Here is her adorable collection of Mother Goose.  Just wanted to say thank you to those of you who sometimes comment on my posts.  Sorry to my bloggy friends that I haven't been commenting as much lately - harder to find time since the baby was born.  And thank you as well to those of you who are reading although not commenting - I appreciate you stopping by!

Little Tots' Book of Nursery Rhymes - A Dean Board Book

 

 

 

 

 

A quick post for you tonight before my toddler wakes up with her stuffy nose again - this is a Dean board book published in 1979 with illustrations by the Johnstones that I recently bought at a used book store.  It's among the many books I gave my daughters for Christmas!  This book has many of the same pages in it that my "Deans Mother Goose Book of Rhymes" has in it but I was so happy to find this one as a board book!  That way I can let my toddler look at it and not worry about it getting ruined.  Then I can show her the more comprehensive one when she gets older.  Take a look at my other Deans/Johnstones posts as well though if you haven't already, as the pictures I posted there are different from the ones here.

Two books illustrated by Lilian Obligado for you today.  The cover of the first one, the Golden Sturdy Shape book, reminded me of something that I still have from childhood.  Check out these pictures I took of my Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe piggy bank.  As you can see from the bottom of the 'shoe' - my aunt Vicki made it in 1981 for me. Isn't it adorable?  I don't have a ton of things still from my childhood but this managed to to make it unscathed.  It now resides in my 1-year-old's room on her shelf.

I love Whitman Tell-a-Tale books- I remember always looking for the cute little Whitman 'W' person up in the top corner.  :)  2 of these 3 books are about pets- the other day my daughter was saying she felt left out because she doesn't have any pets and most of her friends do.  Mommy Guilt Trip!!!  She has wanted a dog for the longest time but now she is saying she might even like a cat.  When she was 2  years old and we were out for walks and we would see someone with a dog, she would run like crazy until we caught up with them and she could see the dog up close.  She has a vast collection of stuffed animal doggies - for a couple years she insisted on sleeping with ALL of them - we have since weaned her down to just a few in her actual bed and the rest in various other places in her room.  :)  My husband and I reaaaaallly don't want to get a pet.  Too much work!!  I never had a pet when I was a kid either.  (Am I sounding like a Grinch?  Call me the Pet Grinch.  :)  )

Eloise Wilkin- Baby's Mother Goose

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Bought this at a book sale for next to nothing -isn't it gorgeous?  This copy was published in 1958. I like the 'Little Girl with a Curl' poem - reminds me of my daughters. :)  And the picture from 'Pease Porridge Hot' reminds me of the 2 of them playing together.  The pictures by the iconic Eloise Wilkin, who illustrated 47 Golden Books and was called 'the soul of Little Golden Books'.  She often used her children and grandchildren and their friends as models for her pictures.  Wilkin was a devout Christian who often illustrated religious picture books or compilations of prayers.

 Here are 2 Mother Goose books- a Golden Shape Book and a Disneyland Record and Book.  The first one is illustrated by Bonnie and Bill Rutherford - they also worked on other really cute books like The Gingerbread Man, The Owl and the Pussycat, The Lion and the Mouse, etc. Didn't you love those books on record as a kid?  And do you now have to explain to your own kids what records and cassette tapes are?  Do you have any cute Mother Goose books that you like to read to your kids?
