Here it is - the classic of all classics! This is a newly-published re-print of Dick and Jane that I ordered for my daughter from Amazon. So cool that they are marketing them to kids again!
- I remember my grandmother had this type of a vacum cleaner.
- Wow, Father in an apron! Pretty progressive for your time there, Father!
- I love how these books often show the parents doing silly things with their kids.

Betty Crocker's Cook Book for Boys and Girls
This book was published in 1957. It was my mom's, and I cooked with it as a child as well. It's falling apart now! It is apparently being re-printed for today's kids due to its popularity - but I think people will probably buy it more for the nostalgia factor than for the actual recipes. :) Anyone else have this one?

Deans Mother Goose Book of Rhymes
Love this. Published in 1977. Found it at a book sale for dirt cheap - one of those ones that makes you think - "why would anyone give this away??" Illustrations are very important to me in a vintage children's book, and these are amazing and fun. I also like this book because as a teacher I have noticed that kids these days don't seem to know very many nursery rhymes that well and also have not been exposed to much poetry. Does anyone else remember this book?

Oh What a Busy Day - by Gyo Fujikawa
This book is my favourite of all my vintage children's books. I came across some images of it one day as I was looking through some pictures on Flickr. I saw the picture of the kids in the treehouse and had a weird sense of deja vu - I knew that I had loved that picture and that book as a child. Isn't it interesting how some images or objects from childhood just sink themselves into our memories? I was so excited to find this book again that I ordered it for myself from Ebay. This book is sooo sweet - I just love its gorgeous illustrations and cute little stories and poems. Don't you just want to live inside this book? It was published in 1976. Gyo Fujikawa was well-known for being one of the first to depict children of many races all playing together - isn't that one of all the kids and animals amazing? She wrote and illustrated many books - some of which I already own and will blog about in the future, and the rest I hope to collect over the years. I love that my 5-year-old can now read this book to herself too.

Chapter 1- First Post
I love vintage children's books. I love going to used book sales and finding a gem of an old book with beautiful illustrations that everyone else has passed over. I love these retro books and the feeling that they give me and how they take me back to my childhood days. I love how they are a connection to the past. I love collecting these books to share with my daughters. I hope this blog will be a place for us to share about our favourite vintage reads together.
