Heidi- 2 Picture Book Versions

The first one here is a Little Golden Book illustrated by Corinne Malvern.  Love these sweet pictures of Heidi - a ray of sunshine in the midst of all the trouble around her.  It was first published in 1954.  The second storybook here is illustrated by Steffie Lerch.  Love the endpapers!!  I remember really enjoying the full version of the Heidi book when I was a kid.  I haven't read these to my daughter yet - am thinking of reading them to her soon and also trying to find the movie of Heidi with Shirley Temple.

My Great Big Tibor Gergely Post

I don't usually put quite soooo many pictures in one blog post but I had to since we are talking about Tibor Gergely's Great Big Book of Bedtime Stories.  I felt like I had found a treasure when I came across this one at a book sale!  So about the illustrator.  Did you know it's pronounced Gare-gay (not like Gurgly, like I've been saying it in my head?!LOL.)  He was born in Hungary.  He illustrated for a lot of different authors.  The pictures I've included in this post are from these stories:  Scuffy the Tugboat by Gertrude Crampton, Tootle by Gertrude Crampton, Travel by Kathleen N. Daly, ("one day, perhaps man will be able to go to the moon...") Animal Gym by Beth Greiner Hoffman,  A Year in the City by Lucy Sprague Mitchell, Seven Little Postmen by Margaret Wise Brown, Little Yip-Yip and His Bark by Kathryn and Byron Jackson, Lion Cub's Busy Day by Barbara Shook Hazen, Daddies by Janet Frank, The Little Red Caboose by Marian Potter, Animal Orchestra by Ilo Orleans, Gergely's Golden Circus by Peter Archer, The Happy Little Whale by Kenneth Norris, and The Golden Year by Peggy Parish.  And there are still many more stories in this great collection!  It's hard to pick a favourite. We are visiting my parents right now and brought this book along so my older daughter is enjoying reading these stories with everybody while we are here at the lake. Some of these stories I also own in Little Golden Book form and will probably blog about in more detail in the future.

More Richard Scarry

Some more Richard Scarry books here - I had never heard of Tinker and Tanker until recently, how about you?  There are a few books about them. I would love to have a 'Busytown' themed birthday party for one of my girls one day.  Forgot to mention in the last Richard Scarry post that included in our Scarry swag is the Busytown Eye Found It board game and also the Busy, Busy Airport game.  So cute.

Another amazing book illustrated by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone for you.  They were twins - Janet drew the animals and Anne drew the period costumes.  They illustrated more than 100 books.  Before my 15-month old baby daughter was born, I used mod-podge to mount some pictures that I took out of my second copy of the Dean/Johnstones book of Mother Goose - I didn't post those pictures on that blog post at the time so I will post them here.  As you can see they are not actually on the wall of the nursery as they are supposed to be yet!!  I really must get around to doing that ...

More Gyo - A Child's Book of Poems

More of Gyo Fujikawa- my fave!!  She was an American, born to Japanese parents, who lived from 1908-1998. Isn't that illustration for Wynken, Blynken, and Nod adorable?  I always found that poem very soothing.  And that picture of the sleeping child with the fairies... so delightfully magical! Some of these would be so great to frame for my baby daughter Tegan's room.
