Frosty the Snowman

I have always loved these illustrations from Frosty the Snowman, by Corinne Malvern.  The children just look so jolly and sweet in their little snowsuits.  This Little Golden Book was first published in 1950.  This YouTube clip of the song by The Ronettes is so fun, too - The Ronettes are so cool. There's no snow here yet where I live, though.  We had a bit of a dusting but that's it so far.  I grew up in Northern Ontario, where the temperatures every winter were always very cold and we got TONS of snow.  When my husband and I moved out here to the Greater Toronto area, it was weird for me to get used to having 'green' Christmases some years!  Last year it was a very mild winter with hardly any snow - nice that we didn't have to shovel or clear the car all the time, but not so nice for the kids with no snow to play with.  Remember when you were a kid, how exciting it was to see the first snow of the season?  I definitely don't feel that way as an adult but I do enjoy watching my daughters' excitement!

  1. Oh, I want this one so badly! It was at the antique store on my last trip there, but they wanted too much money for it. The illustrations are so awesome!

  3. What a beautiful book! The illustrations are simply divine! I get so excited when I see snow. Growing up in Australia, in a small coastal town, I didn't see snow until only 4 years ago!

  5. I LOVE those illustrations - so classic! They look like the Dick and Jane pictures, don't they? Quite a departure from the cartoony depiction in the movie Frosty Returns! Just wanted to let you know that the Kid Lit Blog Hop is on now, so you are more than welcome to link up this post. Have a wonderful weekend Leanne. :D

  9. I do love the vintage illustrations in this book. I believe that the digital version of it used to be on We Give Books (it may still be) but it's not quite the same on the computer. Thanks for linking up to The Children's Bookshelf!

  10. We had a teeeeeny tiny bit of snow yesterday, but you had to squint to recognize it, so it probably doesn't count as the first snow :)

I love those illustrations too. Even the uniformed police officer, a figure that can sometimes seem scary, appears happy and helpful!

Thanks for linking into the Kid Lit Blog Hop!
