Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Posted by PicasaThis adorable Little Golden Book is illustrated by Richard Scarry.  I was wondering - do your kids question the whole Santa/Rudolph/Elf on the Shelf stuff, or do they accept it unquestioningly?  I think that my 6 year old accepts all the Santa and Rudolph stuff, it's not that she's doubting it, but she starting to want to understand more of how it all works.  Questions like 'Why is Santa's name Kris Kringle?  And St. Nick?  Does he live in a castle?  Is that guy the real Santa, or just a helper Santa?  How does he get in our house if we don't have a chimney? ' and so on!  As for the Elf on the Shelf- I am not sure if she suspects anything or not - every morning I play along with helping her to find him and am 'surprised' when she reads me his note and the joke that he wrote down for her for the day.

  1. I have this one! I went out of my way to find a copy to replace the one I had when I was little. For the longest time, I could only find the Rankin-Bass tie-in edition. Grrrr...

My kids ask questions all the time. I am pretty sure that the oldest knows about Santa, but she's like me - she likes the whimsy of it all. The youngest is such a little cynic. She asks so many questions that I'm sure it's only a matter of time...

(We don't do Elf on the Shelf. I was still at the bookstore when they first came out, and the company pushed us HARD to sell them. It just put me off!) ;o)

    1. Elf on the Shelf just seemed to come out of nowhere - I'm sure I hadn't heard of it before last year and all of a sudden it was everywhere! We don't have an 'official' one that matches the book - we just have a small homemade one that someone made at a craft fair.

  4. I WANT this book! The illustrations are so nice! My 8 year-old still believes in Santa Claus but he was suspicious at the Elf on the shelf when it started to appear in his class. He asked me to look on Amazon.com to see if their was such a doll and sure enough he said "Ah Ha! I knew it! The elf is not real! Wait until I tell my friends about it in class! They all think it is real but I knew it wasn't!" :P

    1. Haha that was pretty smart of your son! How are you and the baby doing? And how is your son adjusting to being a big brother?

    2. Doing fine thanks, but I am very sleep-deprived (but that comes with the territory, doesn't it?). The first week was tough for big brother as he realized he was no longer the main attraction but he got over it and now he loves his baby sister :)

  5. I too have this edition (in the small and large version) - huge fan of Richard Scarry and saved it from my childhood. Such a lovely book! And every year, they search Santa's list for their name (must think the list is magic and may change each year :-)

    1. Ooh I would love to have a large version of it too! So sweet that your kids look for their names on the list.
