Betty Crocker's Parties for Children

Posted by PicasaSo my friend Hilda, who is over at the blog From Overwhelmed to Organized, being her organized self, was purging some of her books that she no longer wanted to make the space for. She brought me this adorable Betty Crocker book from her childhood as she didn't feel the need to keep it any more.  Of course I snatched it up!  You know what they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure!  Thanks again, Hilda, your book has gone to a very good home!  (Readers, go on over and check out her blog!  Hilda and I started blogging at the same time and she is rocking it with the organizing tips over at her site!)

As I'm sure those of you with children have noticed, parties at home, where children play the types of games such as the ones found in this book, are definitely on the decline, while parties that you pay to have at a place of interest are definitely on the rise.  So far, besides home parties, my 6-year old has been to parties at places such as the bowling alley, Chuck E. Cheese, a cooking class party at the grocery store, a princess party at a dress-up type of place for little girls, a sports party, a gymnastics party, parties at indoor play places, a ceramics party... you name it!  So far we are still having our daughters' parties at home.  I figure we'll do that while the girls still enjoy it and we are able to.  Our house has enough room and I like being able to decorate our house with different themes.  (If you'd like to see some pictures of our Eric Carle and Dr. Seuss themed birthday parties, click on the blog post labels over at the side.  Nothing jaw-droppingly Pinterest-worthy or anything, but it was cute and we had fun! Oh and if you'd like to see my other Betty Crocker book that I posted about last year, look for the label on the side as well.)

  2. I LOVE THIS!!!!! We have had all of our parties at home, save one, which was at a park. A normal park, where we ate at picnic tables and provided our own decor, but they also have a little train ride and ponies, so there was something for the kids to do after our official party was done. This looks absolutely darling, though. I love the illustrations!

    1. I don't know if I'll enjoy the home parties as much when they turn into sleepover parties - you were brave to do that for Julia!! :)

  4. I prefer home birthday parties too but kiddo thinks his friend's parties at Monkey Business and other outside joints are much better. Sigh. I need to find a good theme so he can have more fun inside! Those are lovely book. I love the retro vibes from the pictures.

    1. Yes this book brings back memories of my own childhood birthday parties - I remember we would often play a game called "Pass the Present"...

  5. I love this! Oh, it just all seems like such a simpler time I want to play button button again! We usually have family birthday parties for the kids at our place. nothing big. But I'm thinking friend birthday parties will be happening soon. I think filling the time with red rover, duck duck goose and button button would be just divine! :)
