Richard Scarry - First Round

Posted by PicasaWe have a lot of Richard Scarry books.  Every time I see one at a used book sale, I grab it.  If it's one we already have, I figure we can use it to cut apart for crafts or save it to give to my nephews.  My mom has bought my daughter Keira a few of the bigger Richard Scarry books too.  There are over 300 of his books published - some of the material is re-used from book to book but that is still crazy impressive!  So this post will be the first of a few Richard Scarry ones - I will show some more of the books we have some other time.  I am sure many of you, like I do, have fond childhood memories of pouring over a Richard Scarry book, looking at all the things the characters were doing in Busytown, seeing what Huckle and Lowly were up  to, laughing at Pig Will and Pig Won't, and looking for Goldbug.  My 5-year-old daughter Keira enjoys watching the Busytown Mysteries show on Kids' CBC.  We also have the adorable app - see at this link - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/richard-scarrys-busytown-hd/id463858993?mt=8

  1. We LOVE Richard Scarry books and the TV shows too. I have a few from when I was little that are read by my kids now and I've done the same thing buying them whenever I see them. Lots of life lessons taught with Busytown examples around here :) Looking forward to the rest of your posts on these books!

  3. I totally have memories of pouring over all the little details in his books when I was a kid. Such wonderfulness :) I too pick up anything of his when I'm out thrifting or hunting used books (and with 300 titles... WOW!... there's lots to collect!) Very cool

  5. I had a big Richard Scarry book when I was a kid. Love his illustrations! My girls like watching Busytown on CBC and we took them to see a live-action production of Busytown when it was on tour. Grabbing the books at garage sales is a great idea. :)
